A cooperative effort of HRDC, utility companies and private donors to assist eligible households prevent electric shutoffs. Assistance is provided in emergency situations and when all other resources have been exhausted.
LIEAP
HRDC provides a program designed to assist the low-income household afford their main heating source during the heating season - October through April. Eligibility for fuel assistance is based on your income and assets. To be eligible, you must make no more than 175 percent of the federal poverty income. Both homeowners and renters may apply for these programs.The amount of assistance is based on: income eligibility, housing type, heat type, number of bedrooms, and the number of people residing in the household. Both owners and renters may apply. Households living on fixed incomes such as SS, SSI, GA, VA, and FAIM may apply as well as the low-income working household.
The LIEAP program uses the 175% scale of Federal Poverty Income Guidelines for eligibility.
